I’m so happy to have found this recipe! I always thought it was possible to make a sourdough starter without discarding, but have never found a recipe/method of achieving this.

It didn’t make sense to me that you could save a small amount of starter to make more without discarding. Why couldn’t you use the same method to make the original starter? Your recipe solves that mystery for me. Thank you!

Hi Donna, no I don’t. The amount of flour you use is minimal, so there’s not too much starter actually. You can watch the video to give you an idea of how much starter you have at the end.

And yes, by day 6 my starter is pretty much alive and i can use it right away, that’s how I’ve been doing it for years.

By now your jar has to be very full. so will it still ferment if its that full?

Hi Joy, I honestly don’t know, I haven’t done it with all purpose flour and I don’t recommend it.

Your recipe states whole wheat flour, however I do not want to waste my money purchasing whole wheat when I know I will never use it.
Thanks
