Method 2 doesn’t need extra sugar because the sweetness comes from the sweetened condensed milk. So yes, be sure to use sweetened, not plain 😊

Also please confirm plain condensed milk is used, not sweetened condensed milk.
Thank you, sounds delicious!

This recipe was delicious. We used the mexicana crema table cream (not sour cream) and green pepper (since my wife doesn’t like spicy hot food). We served it over arroz rojo, and it was fabulous. Thank you for sharing the recipe, it is a family favorite.

Thank you for trying my conchas! The topping can get crumbly if it’s too dry, if butter is not enough, add a 1-2 teaspoons of water and knead until it holds together nicely.

They even tasted great. However, I had trouble with making my topping. It got very crumbly and did not want to stay together. Any tips on this?

Wonderful dish!
Just made it came out great!
Found Mexican squash at my local farmers market today!
Served it with rice (added peas and carrots in the rice)
and warm tortillas. Made great veggie tacos! Tomorrow think I will serve with pinto beans.
I added some Greek yogurt for protein and lots of cheese.
Sooooooo good!
Thank you for posting the recipe. Very hard to find Calabacitas in California.

Corn tortillas are better for this recipe, and any kind of potatoes will work fine :)
