In reply to Paul. Hi Paul, I haven't made them with blue corn masa, but I think is totally possible. Try a few and cook them in water to see of they don't fall apart.

Hi Mari,

Can I use Blue Masa Harina to make Chochoyones? I have just had two 800g bags of it delivered. I’ve never cooked with Masa Harina of any colour before but have heard that there are differences in absorbency depending what type of masa is used.

This worked perfectly for me, thank you! I have bad luck with this sort of thing so I was terrified mine would fall apart as I cooked them, but they were delicious and I loved the texture. Definitely worth hunting down masa for!

Mari! Just discovered this recipe today and I am in love with your blog! such authentic Mexican recipes you have, I love them all. I haven’t had chochoyones y LONG time but now I’m gonna make them and treat myself with some caldo with chochoyones. Thank you for everything.
